Madliena is regarded as one of the most exclusive locations on the Maltese Islands. Traditionally Madliena forms part of the village of Għargħur, however as from the early 90’s it started forming part of the then new locality of Swieqi in the outskirts of St. Julians. The name of the village derives from an old chapel dedicated to Saint Mary Magdelene.
